Wedding season is now upon us; the peonies are in full bloom and hazy summer days make the perfect setting amongst dreamy wedding venues. We are delighted to announce that our founder and creative director, Katie Craven, celebrated her wedding last month in the beautiful setting of the Yorkshire Dales. The celebration was a relaxed, quintessentially British affair, with the bride walking just two minutes from her parents home to the quaint Village Church for the ceremony, and a traditional Yorkshire ceilidh dance for the evening celebration.
Katie designed and created her own wedding invitations and stationary for the day, where she captured the essence of the rural, relaxed wedding she and her new husband had planned!
Katie talks us through the inspiration behind her bespoke invitations below
A wedding invitation is the first introduction that your guests are going to have to see the look, feel and style of your wedding, therefore I wanted my invitations to capture the essence of the beautiful surroundings we were going to be in on our wedding day; the beauty of the English countryside in the summer, the remote nature of my parents village, surrounded by the sweet roses in bloom and doll-house cottages. It was quintessentially British, a rural location, with a short walk to the local church from my parents home and another walk over the river to the evening reception venue, which we dressed up in white, light pinks with hints of glistening gold accents.
It was simple in many ways, with the Yorkshire countryside providing the most stunning backdrop for my day and my illustrations were designed especially to reflect it’s delicate beauty.
We wanted to create a map that would show the journey of our wedding day, from the beginning where my bridesmaids and I would be getting ready in the morning, to the short walk that we took to the church for the ceremony, and the final journey over the River Wharfe to the village hall, where the wedding breakfast and evening celebration would commence.
The flowers that we chose were an array of my favourite English garden blooms; peonies and roses, in pink and cream tones, that were embedded with luscious eucalyptus and french ruscus greenery. I wanted the flowers I illustrated on all of our wedding stationary to be a reflection of the beautiful flowers we were going to have on the day.As we made our way over the river to the Village Hall for the celebration, the rural Yorkshire countryside made the most stunning backdrop.
We wanted to include small personalized touches for our guests throughout our day, therefore for the wedding breakfast I created each guest their own bespoke menu. Our guests were able to choose their food for the day on their RSVP card, as we included a menu for our guests with our invitations, with a choice of 3 different options per course for each guest to choose from.
Wedding invitations are something in which your guests can look at in the exciting run up to your special day, as they are displayed on fridges and notice boards in your guests homes. A map is a great way for your friends and family to visualize the journey that you are going to take on the day, especially if your ceremony and venue are going to be held at separate locations. It is also a practical help for your guests to find your wedding venue!
Nestled in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National park, Wharfedale is a stunning area of natural beauty which is situated within the boroughs of Craven. Many of the Valley’s fields and hills surrounding us were bursting with sheep and their new sweet lambs. It was a joy to be surrounded by so many different species of wildlife and farm animals as we made our way through the village and across the River Wharfe to our evening venue.
